Reference: Daniel 2:1-30

The book of Daniel is called an apocalyptic book. An apocalypse is an unveiling of truth that would be otherwise concealed. The apocalyptic book most closely associated with Daniel is Revelation. Some have referred to Revelation as “Daniel, chapter 13” (Daniel 12:4, 9; Revelation 22:10). Ezekiel and Zechariah are also considered apocalyptic. These books are characterized by many mysterious prophecies containing imagery and visions that are not easily understood. These books are overlooked by many who find them too difficult to understand. The book of Daniel is more often consulted because of its fascinating narrative which contains some amazing miracles.

So, the style of the book of Daniel is partly prophetic / apocalyptic and partly a narrative which tells the story of four young men, among others from Israel, who are taken captive and brought to Babylon. The narrative is a dramatic lesson in spiritual warfare and also a lesson about God’s sovereignty and power over all men and all nations. Though greatly loved, the book of Daniel is also a book that has stirred great arguments and debate. All the more reason to become intimately acquainted with its contents!
