Reference: Psalm 27

Fear and insecurity drain us and can paralyze us. Desire can distract us or completely absorb us. At the same time, when properly directed, desire can empower us. In this world there are many forms of escape from reality: coping mechanisms to supposedly survive stress and boredom. A relationship with Christ removes fear and insecurity. A relationship with Christ gives us a way to focus our desires, so that our lives are powerful, joyful and meaningful. A relationship with Christ provides a way to escape into reality: to deliver us from the deceptions and intimidations of the world. Let’s see how Psalm 27 helps us in three ways to appreciate and make full use of our relationship with Christ.

He's My Desire — Psalm 27:4

  • We need singleness of mind & heart (Matthew 6:19-24; James 1:2-8; Matthew 22:36-40).
  • Psalm 27:6 If we do not celebrate our relationship with Christ, we will not be able to live for Him (Psalm 32:11; 33:1; Nehemiah 8:10b; I John 1:3-4).
  • Psalm 27:7-8 – If we desire that God hear us, we should also be willing to hear Him (Psalm 66:18; I John 3:22; 5:14).
  • Psalm 27:11 - Our desire for Him opens our hearts to be taught of Him (Psalm 119:10-12, 68)
  • Psalm 27:14 – The Lord is worth waiting for (John 6:66-69; James 4:8-10; I Peter 5:6-10).
  • Consider Christ – Philippians 1:21; 3:8-10, 13-15; 4:4
