We are at home with God through the work of Christ (John 14:6, 15-23; Ephesians 1:3-7; 2:4-7). God’s will is food for our soul because of Christ – the incarnate Word – who has transformed us into loving servants / slaves to God (John 1:1,14,17; Romans 6:6-18, 22-23; II Corinthians 5:14-21).

Two things should now be abundantly clear:

1. God is everything to me because of Jesus Christ (John 14:1-11; Matthew 11:27 cp. John 5:16-27).

2. Therefore, Christ is also everything to me (I Corinthians 1:30; Philippians 1:21; 4:13; John 15:1-8; Colossians 1:12-22; 2:6-10; 3:1-4; Revelation 22:13).

John 1:1-18 shows us why Christ is our life.

• He is The Word – Christ is the expression and essence of the heart and mind of the Father (John 1:1-3,14; 14:8-11; II Corinthians 4:6; Hebrews 1:1-3).
• He is our God – who is equal with the Father – who became man for us (John1:1, 14-15; 5:17-18; 10:27-30; 20:24-29; Philippians 2:5-8; Colossians 2:9; I Timothy 3:16; Isaiah 9:6).
• He is our Creator – (John 1:3, 10; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:15-17; Hebrews 1:8-12).
• He is our example - His life is the example of godliness and righteousness (a guiding light) for men (John 1:4, 9, 14; 8:12; Matthew 11:28-30; 16:24-26; I Peter 2:19-25; I John 2:6).
• He gives life – His work is to give life and make us the children of God (John 1:12-13; 6:27-28, 63; 11:25-26; 14:1-6; 17:1-4) Note: to give us life, He had to give up His life (John 10:10-11; Romans 8:1-4; I Corinthians 15:1-4; Ephesians 1:6-7; 5:2; Galatians 2:20).
• He gives grace and truth – He is the source of all grace and truth, which is infused in our life (John 1:14, 16-17; 6:63; 14:15-27; 15:1-8 cp. Philippians 1:11; Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 3:14-19; Colossians 2:2-10; II Timothy 2:1; Philemon 6; II Peter 1:2-4; 3:18).
