Reference: Isaiah 9:6-7 & Galatians 4:4-6

Every day babies are born. Many of them are sons. So, at first, the news of a baby being born might not seem very amazing. Earlier, the prophet mentioned a baby born to a woman who is a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). Now, that is amazing! Here, in Isaiah 9:6, we are not only told of a male child being born, but that he is a son that is “given.” He is a gift: a leader, a Wonderful Counselor. He is Divine, all-powerful, eternal, and will bring peace to the world. The gift of world-wide peace starts with individuals who receive God’s gift (John 3:16-17, note the word “sent”). This promise of the Messiah (Christ) was fulfilled over 700 years later when Jesus of Nazareth was born. He perfectly fulfilled every prophesy written about Him. In Galatians 4:4, Paul says, “But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,” “Sent forth” implies that Christ had a mission. See John 3:17; I John 4:9-10,14. Jesus Christ was perfectly made to be our Savior (Hebrews 2:9-18; 4:14-16; 9:11-28; 10:1-14).

Let’s examine Galatians 4:4-6 more carefully to see how Christ was made our perfect Savior.

God sent forth his Son, Made of a woman – Galatians 4:4 (KJV)
Made flesh – John 1:14 cp. I Timothy 3:16
Made a little lower than the angels – Hebrews 2:9 (“seed of Abraham” – Hebrews 2:16)
Made of the seed of David – Romans 1:1-4

God sent forth his Son, Made under the law – Galatians 4:4 (KJV)
To fulfill the law, then to receive its curse so that we can be delivered from the penalty of our disobedience.
(Romans 8:3; Matthew 5:17-18; II Corinthians 5:21)

God sent forth his Son…to redeem – Galatians 4:5 (KJV)
God wanted to buy us back from the penalty of our sins.
(Romans 5:6-11)
We now have a new heart and a new relationship through Christ’s death and resurrection.
(Romans 4:25 – 5:1; II Corinthians 5:14-21)
Christ is “made” unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and redemption.

(I Corinthians 1:30)
God has sent forth the Spirit of his Son – Galatians 4:6 (KJV)
As God sent his Son, bodily, into the world, so God is now sending the Spirit of his son into the hearts of those who receive Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
(John 14:16-23; Romans 8:9-16)
And now, as the Father sent his Son, so Christ is sending us into the world.
(John 20:21; Matthew 10:16; 28:18-20)
