In Christ's priestly prayer, we have focused on our Lord's work that He accomplished while here on Earth. Christ finished His work (John 17:4). Paul finished his course (II Timothy 4:7). Are we running the race that is set before us? See Hebrews 12:1-3 cp. II Timothy 2:1-7. The list of seven things Christ accomplished on Earth is here listed again, accompanied with another list of defining phrases:

1. Christ glorified the father and finished the work given by the Father. John 17:1-4
2. Christ manifested (declared) the name of the Father unto His disciples. John 17:6,26
3. Christ gave the disciples the words and the word of the Father. John 17:8,14
4. Christ kept the disciples (gathered, taught and protected them). John 17:12
5. Christ sent His disciples into the world. John 17:18
6. Christ gave the disciples glory (i.e. a unifying purpose and power which comes from the Father and glorifies the Father). John17:1,5,22
7. Christ knew the Father (i.e. was intimate with the Father and confessed Him to others). John 17:25-26

3. Publishing the Father's Words.
4. Preserving the Father's People.
5. Propagation of the Gospel.
6. Partnership shared with Himself and with the Father.

Let's also consider some things that Christ is still doing on a continual basis.

Jesus continually prays for us (John 17:9, 15,20).
See Luke 22:31-32; Romans 8:34; I Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 7:25; I John 2:1. Note: Christ does not pray for the world. He has delivered us from the world and is coming to judge it (Galatians 1:4; Acts 17:30-31; II Thessalonians 1:7-10; I John 2:15-17).

Jesus continually speaks to us and through us (John 17:13).
Jesus used the word "speak" in the present tense. He not only spoke while He was in the world (John 15:11; 16:33). He continues to speak. He is sharing His joy. The Spirit of Christ is directly dealing with people's souls through the Gospel. See John 5:21,24-26; 6:63.

Jesus continually sanctifies Himself (John 17:19).
"Sanctify" means to be set apart for Holy purposes. Jesus is alive and active in the administration of His kingdom. See Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:20; Acts 2:25-36 (Psalm 16:8-11; 110:1); I Peter 3:22. See also Matthew 18:20; Romans 1:5 (cp. 15:18); Philippians 4:13; Acts 18:9-10; Hebrews 2:18; 4:14-16. We do not serve the memory of Christ. We serve the living Christ! See II Timothy 2:8-13.
