When God’s Law is made Void

Reference: Psalm 119:121-128

We are living in times that resemble that which is described in Daniel 7:25. Scripture-based, time-honored values are being toppled by the work of legislators, judges, educators, entertainers and even religious people who are working to establish a new normal. God's Word is either being disregarded or "reinterpreted" to fit the agenda of this new world order. People, who fear and hate what Christians believe and do, quickly call us fearful (phobic) and hateful (hate-crimes) in order to keep the attention off of their own fear and hate. Psalm 119 is a wonderful digest of how men can relate to God through His Word. In Psalm 119:121-128 we have some discussion of how to respond to a world that is voiding God's law. They not only break God's law. They are calling His standards evil and outdated. Some propose that the Bible is not God's Word. Rather, it is the traditions of men. "God," as men would have Him to be, "is more loving and gracious than the commandments of the Bible." We must note that when God's Word is voided, God's people are out of vogue. When God's Law is broken, God's people are branded "unloving" and "hateful."

God's People out of Vogue - Psalm 119:121-122

The oppressors and the proud rise up against those who love and honor God's standard. Compare Psalm 119:95, 157-165; Proverbs 28:12,15,28; 29:2,12; II Timothy 3:1-13; I Peter 4:1-4; I John 3:1,11-13.

God's Law made Void - Psalm 119:126

God's Word Denied -   "The Bible does not say that."
   (You are misinterpreting the Bible.)
God's Word Despised -   "The Bible should not say that."
   (The Bible is wrong!)
God's Word Derailed -   "The Bible is not allowed to say that."
(Actually, Christians are not allowed to say that.)

"It is time for Thee, LORD, to Work." - Psalm 119:126

The believer's work:

  • Prayer (Psalm 119:121-126 cp. Ezekiel 9:4; James 4:1-10; Matthew 5:4; II Thessalonians 3:1-2)
  • Patience (Luke 21:12-19; II Timothy 2:24-26)
  • Persistence (Psalm 119:127-128; Galatians 6:7-10; II Timothy 2:1-10; 3:10 - 4:5)

God's Work:

  • Revival (Believers returned to priorities - Psalm 80:3-7; 85:4-8; Habakkuk 3:2; Revelation 2 & 3)
  • Regeneration (Salvation of the lost - Luke 23:33-34; Acts 7:59-60; 26:9-23; II Timothy 2:8-10)
  • Retribution (Judgment of the disobedient - Psalm 9:15-20; 46:1-11; II Thessalonians 1:3-10)
